The good news for people in the electronic security industry is that the video surveillance market is as strong as ever.  In fact, it's poised for even stronger growth over the next five years, says recent research from Frost & Sullivan as reported by Security Systems News magazine.

But there's even better news for industry experts who have been pounding the table for customers to convert to more digitally enhanced IP-based video solutions.  The IP segment will enjoy the largest growth of all video surveillance categories over these next five years (and most likely beyond).

In the interview with Security Systems News, Dilip Sarangan, and industry research analyst from Frost & Sullivan said, "There's only so long you get away with using older technologies...if you have the ability to deliver better quality video that you can actually use as evidence, there's so much value in that."

Facility managers, security directors and the like already know the validity of the above comments and are part of what the article calls the "natural cycle of technology acceptance, adoption and refresh".

Sarangan indicates in the article that price points are going to start coming down "because as you put more and more of the upgraded infrastructure in, the more of these solutions there are deployed, and the price will reduce".

So if you've been thinking about upgrading from analog security cameras to IP or megapixel cameras, the future is definitely now.  And if you are installing a system "from scratch", it may be wise to start right off with IP or megapixel instead of analog.
