Just like any family or business who needs a security system to be on the watch when they’re not around, real estate agents do as well.

You can make a case that they need security devices for the properties they’re selling more than others do.  Just think, unoccupied houses sit unattended for long periods of time and don’t have others such as neighbors keeping watch because there are no ties to the house for those neighbors.

Pictured above is a water sensor / Water Bug.

So the agent only gets to “check in” on the property from time to time.  Not only can break-ins happen, many other things can damage the house, and more importantly, can be prevented with security devices.

Monitored burglar alarms

Even though the houses are empty, there are certainly still many things of value that thieves desire.  These include copper and other metals, furnishings and fixtures, and more.  Also, customers of the agents who are about to become new homeowners will want a quality security system in place.  Home alarm systems certainly help add to the selling appeal of a home which of course helps the agent.

Water Sensors

These devices are very important for obvious reasons.  Anyone, even a non-real estate professional, is going to want to know when water begins to leak in a house.  But agents who are listing a house with a leaky basement, especially in the rainy season, are going to want to know the cellar is on its way to being flooded before they show up with a client to view it.  They’re going to need time to get a contractor to dry things up.

Temperature Sensors

High and low temperature sensors will prove important when pipes are concerned.  You’ll want to know that the temperature setting is sufficient enough to keep the pipes warm.  Low temperature sensors will alert the agent of any potential danger regarding freezing pipes or other low temperature issues such as problems with the furnace.

Locksmith Services

Real estate agents can benefit to choose a security company who also provides locksmith services.  They will want a trusted company to refer their customers to who purchase a house, as they will need to re-key or to change the locks.  The new homeowners may want a free inspection of the premises to make sure there are adequate locks also.

Fire Prevention

This is last on our list of five, but obviously most important.  Smoke and heat detectors are a must.  Especially for the reason we mentioned above – that the house is unattended and no one will be there to detect the beginning stages.
