With a difficult economy and budgets tight, it's understandable that people need to be cost-conscious when making purchases in this climate.

Homeowners are fortunate to be able to have the means to install security systems that include home alarms and other ancillary devices such as carbon monoxide detectors.

Many are also able to bolster their residential security system with video surveillance.  Unfortunately, there are many others who either cannot or don’t think it’s necessary.

If you cannot commit to video due to funding, it is totally understandable.  But those that can afford it and are choosing not to add video surveillance to their residential security system should consider the story depicted in the attached video from the Associated Press.

Guy Sitzman of Colorado certainly benefited from having video surveillance as part of his home security system.

A burglar entered his property and began to brazenly unscrew motion detector lights, he then attempted to break into doors and windows.  He finally succeeded because the video shows him eventually exiting the house with a rifle of Mr. Sitzman’s.  This is when Sitzman saw it on live video feed.

The nervous but also furious homeowner actually came out of his house brandishing a gun and bullet-proof vest while firing a shot at the fleeing burglar (who dropped the stolen rifle).

So because Mr. Sitzman had video surveillance at his home, he kept not only his own home more safe, but his community also—one less gun in on the streets.

Video also helped determine that nothing was stolen from Sitzman’s house, along with the fact that the homeowner came storming out of his house firing a weapon!

But what video also did was produce still shots of the thief that Mr. Sitzman has arranged and posted all around town hoping that it will lead to this drain-on-society’s capture.

Thanks for spending some time with us and we hope you enjoyed the video provided by the Associated Press and made possible by the video surveillance equipment of Mr. Guy Sitzman.
